Why buyers choose Everpure

Focus on data outcomes, not managing storage.

Refreshes that fit in an afternoon

Evergreen® Architecture enables upgrading controllers and media in place, across generations, with data-in-place upgrades.

Upgrades are our worry now

Our contractual SLAs guarantee zero planned downtime for the Purity upgrades and infrastructure expansions we perform. Your platform stays ready as business needs change.

Automate with policies, not procedures

With Everpure Fusion™, automation is set by policy, not a patchwork of scripts that your team has to build and maintain.

NetApp

Storage media

DirectFlash® Module is covered by Evergreen//Forever™. Including protection against failures due to flash media wear. 1

The new controller will not include storage media with NetApp Storage Lifecycle Program. Media comes through Capacity Refresh, crediting one terabyte for every four purchased. An update may also require buying compatible media. 2 Under Capacity Refresh, the customer is solely responsible for migrating data from existing storage media to new storage media. NetApp 'may change, modify or end this Program at any time without notice.’

Efficiency

DirectFlash Modules deliver efficiency over SSDs. Up to 85% less energy used in operations, 3x longer lifespans, 5x more storage density.13

Commodity SSDs are limited by legacy architecture. The efficiency of vendors using this technology is capped by the architecture that’s designed for spinning disks.14

Upgrades

No guesswork and no downtime. Use Pure1® as your guide across software versions for FlashArray™. Performance is maintained through the upgrade. Everpure uses controlled controller failover and reboots.3

Upgrade complexity. For non-adjacent ONTAP releases, the upgrade loads an intermediate software image and NetApp documents multiple takeover/giveback operations and related reboots during the process. NetApp also advises confirming that I/O and CPU are not above roughly 50% per controller before initiating takeover. 4, 5

Operating environment

One Purity operating environment across block, file, and object. AI-driven predictive intelligence and fleet-level observability across the estate. 6

Three operating systems across the portfolio. ONTAP, SANtricity, and StorageGRID, with capabilities fragmented across system-native tools.7, 8, 9

Automation

Automation executed by policy rather than workflows. Configuration, placement, provisioning, rebalancing, and capacity management run fleet-wide.10

Automation is OS-specific and triggered workflow by workflow. Each workflow is authored, run, and maintained by the team that owns it. 11

Included capabilities

All core data services licensed on every system. Synchronous replication, with no separate license negotiation.1

ONTAP One bundles software on AFF and FAS. The block-only ASA line uses a separate ONTAP One for SAN bundle. 12

NetApp Keystone

How commitments activate

Conditions are stated in the contract rather than negotiated per account.1

SLAs require nomination and eligibility approval. NetApp account approval is needed before protection applies.2

Availability

99.9999% — six nines, contractually committed. No nomination or opt-in required.1

99.999% per performance service level instance — five nines. 2 SLA requires nomination and planned maintenance is excluded from the downtime calculation.

Planned downtime

Zero planned downtime for upgrades and capacity scaling. Covers Purity upgrades and infrastructure expansions performed by Everpure.1

Planned maintenance is excluded from the uptime formula. Downtime during upgrades and support activities does not count against availability.2

Performance

A contractual MB/sec or IOPS/TiB floor. Committed throughput rather than a best-effort tier.1

A latency objective, not a throughput commitment. 90th-percentile latency, with a documented list of exclusions from the sample set.3

Capacity headroom

25% buffer capacity included at no additional charge. Up to 1PiB, forecast through Pure1 Workload Planner. If the buffer isn't there, the credit is 100% of the monthly invoice.1

The default burst limit is 20% above committed capacity, measured and billed per performance service level. Limits of 40% and 60% are available as an add-on for unified and block-optimized storage.4

Upgrades without migration

Non-disruptive upgrades, guaranteed. If Everpure determines a migration is required instead, the credit is up to twelve months of charges.1

No migration commitment appears among Keystone's published service levels. Those cover availability, performance, sustainability, and ransomware recovery.2

When data is unrecoverable

Recovery first, then credit. Recovery support is included: Everpure deploys recovery personnel and ships replacement hardware at its cost. If the data can’t be recovered, credits of up to 12 months of charges apply.1

Compensation only, and narrowly scoped. Requires a separately purchased assurance service. Coverage applies only to Snapshot data on SnapLock Compliance volumes, and credits are capped at 10% of contract value.5

Remedies when SLAs are missed

Credits are tiered to the size of the miss. From 3% of the monthly invoice at 2.6 seconds of downtime, up to 100% beyond 43.8 minutes.1

Credits are prorated to affected capacity. The tier is set by monthly uptime, then scaled down by the share of committed capacity affected.2

Reasons enterprises choose Everpure

Solid Deep Green Background
Hardware changes, your data doesn't move
Reason #1
Controllers, blades, software, and media get replaced while the data stays put.
A missed commitment costs us, not you
Reason #2
Credits scale with the length of the outage, up to 100% of the monthly invoice.
One operating environment, one control plane
Reason #3
Block, file, and object run on the same operating environment, visible from a single management plane.
Policy replaces the provisioning ticket
Reason #4
Automation executed by policy. Provisioning, placement, and rebalancing happen without a human trigger.
Every data service is already licensed
Reason #5
Data services are included in the license, so new capabilities don't start procurement cycles.

Platform and protection

What is the difference between Everpure and NetApp?

The operating model. Everpure runs one Purity operating environment across block, file, and object, with all array software licensed at no additional charge and Everpure Fusion executing policy fleet-wide rather than array by array. One OS to handle, no extra charges, and policies across the fleet: Simple. Efficient. Zero complexity.

NetApp runs three operating systems, ONTAP, SANtricity, and StorageGRID. This is OS-specific automation, and licensing splits between ONTAP One and a separate ONTAP One for SAN bundle for the block-only ASA line.

Upgrades and refresh

Does a NetApp controller upgrade include storage media?

No. NetApp's Storage Lifecycle Program states that a new controller "will not include storage media." Media is handled separately through Capacity Refresh, a trade-in crediting one terabyte of raw capacity for every four terabytes purchased, and an upgrade may also require buying compatible components. On Everpure, storage media is covered by the Evergreen subscription, including protection against failures due to flash media wear.

See how Evergreen//One works

How long before a NetApp controller update is available compared to Everpure?

Three years, but it requires commitment at least 6 years into their Storage Lifecycle Program (SLP). NetApp's contractual terms define two explicit upgrade windows: after year three (requiring ≥6 years total services) and after year six (requiring ≥9 years total). You also cannot renew SLP past the six-year mark without first completing the year-three update.

Everpure's Ever Modern upgrades arrive every three years upon renewal of Evergreen//Forever. The difference is Everpure doesn’t require purchasing 6 or 9 year commitments to get the upgrades.

See how Evergreen//Forever works

Do storage array upgrades always require a data migration?

Not with Everpure. Evergreen//One includes a No Data Migration SLA. If Everpure determines an upgrade requires a migration rather than a non-disruptive upgrade, the contract credits up to 12 months of charges. NetApp controller upgrades run a six-stage procedure built on aggregate relocation, and non-adjacent ONTAP software upgrades require loading intermediate versions with repeated takeover/giveback operations and reboots.

Cost and commitments

How do Everpure and NetApp compare on availability SLAs?

NetApp Keystone commits to 99.999% (five-nines) availability. The SLA is not automatic: it is "on a nomination basis" for qualified orders. Planned maintenance is excluded from the calculation entirely, no credit is issued. For unplanned outages, credits range from 5% to a hard cap of 50% of capacity fees.

Evergreen//One delivers a 99.9999% (six-nines) availability commitment. The SLA is contractual from day one: no nomination, no opt-in required. If any planned downtime occurs during a Purity upgrade or infrastructure expansion, Everpure pays 100% of the monthly invoice as a credit. For unplanned outages, credits scale from 3% up to 100% of the monthly invoice with no cap.

See the SLAs

How much does a NetApp Keystone SLA credit pay out compared to Everpure Evergreen//One?

NetApp's own documentation example: 95 seconds of unavailability affecting 10 TiB of a 100 TiB commitment at $1,000 per month. That breach falls below the 99.999% threshold, triggering a 5% credit rate. NetApp then prorates that rate to the affected fraction of total committed capacity: (10 ÷ 100) × $1,000 × 5% = $5

Run the same scenario through Evergreen//One — same outage, same duration, same $1,000/month subscription. Ninety-five seconds also triggers the 5% credit tier. But Evergreen//One applies that 5% to the full monthly invoice, with no capacity proration: 5% × $1,000 = $50

Same outage. Same subscription cost. Ten times the credit.

The structural difference: NetApp's formula multiplies the credit rate by the fraction of capacity affected, so an incident touching 10% of committed storage returns 10% of what the headline rate implies. Evergreen//One's credits are a percentage of the total monthly invoice regardless of which or how many systems were affected. And the scale differs at the top end too: NetApp's credits cap at 50% of that prorated amount; Evergreen//One's credits reach 100% of the full monthly invoice for outages exceeding 43.8 minutes.

Compare SLA terms

How does NetApp or Everpure handle burst capacity?

Both NetApp Keystone and Everpure Evergreen//One offer burst headroom. Billing impact on consuming burst will vary based on specific scenarios. However, only Evergreen//One offers an SLA for the buffer which contractually guarantees that headroom exists and provides credits if this guarantee is not met.
