Hello, everybody, and welcome to today's web conference. We're gonna be talking about one of the most critical structural shifts facing enterprise IT today. It's how to balance the need for scalable s- cloud innovation with the absolute reality of flat IT budgets. And during this webinar, we're gonna talk about how y- to start with the right storage
00:22
platform, which can fundamentally rewrite your cloud operations model, giving you enterprise-grade capabilities without unpredictable price tags. I'm Carl Salazzo, and I'm a principal solution engineer at Microsoft. My name's David Staman, and I lead our technical strategy for our cloud and virtualization at Everpure.
00:44
Thanks, David. We're excited to walk you guys through a solution that we've co-engineered to address financial and operational bottlenecks that come with optimizing your hybrid cloud strategy. Let's get going. When organizations look at the hybrid cloud model, they expect ultimate flexibility, but the reality often brings
01:04
unexpected complexities. Data gets stuck, visibility gets degraded, and perhaps most importantly, costs begin to explode. But did you know that many of these daily operational headaches actually stem from a foundational issue? If you fix the storage platform underneath,
01:24
you can mitigate the vast majority of the cloud challenges that you're facing every day. Let's dig in. Ask yourself three baseline questions about your current cloud roadmap. First, is it economically optimized? Are you generating the maximum business value out of every single dollar you spend?
01:46
Second, is it truly resilient and protected without adding a layer of management complexity? And third, is it ready for the massive storage footprint that AI is going to bring to your environment tomorrow? Storage today is siloed between on-premises hardware and incompatible
02:09
virtual cloud environments. IT relies on different systems and services to manage data depending on where it lives and how it's used. Storage systems do not speak the same language or use the same protocols, which makes it incredibly difficult for IT to get data where it's needed to fuel business innovation and
02:30
drive bottom-line results. What IT really needs is a storage platform that seamlessly integrates all of your data no matter where it lives. And beyond this, existing cloud storage solutions are incomplete and costly, lacking basic features like data reduction technology or data protection technology that features the ability to optimize
02:57
cloud spend to make sure that your applications are performing efficiently and operating securely. But what do teams actually want? Well, it comes down to four core things. They want seamless scalability, where storage expands dynamically without needing a major
03:17
architectural overhaul. They want complete price pre- predictability with no hidden fees. They need standard enterprise-grade protection built right into the platform. And above all, they need it to be fully managed and simple to deploy using tools they already know. And let's talk about Everpure.
03:39
Everpure has been deeply trusted by Microsoft for nearly a decade, and together we've built an entire portfolio of integrated solutions that seamlessly cover everything from edge environments, on-premise, and cloud. Of course, Microsoft Azure. And today, we are focusing on our newest evolution, a co-designed, completely native
04:00
Azure cloud service. And with that, we'll kinda jump into what is the benefit that Everpure ultimately brings? And our goal here is being able to unify that experience through our Enterprise Data Cloud. And how we do that is by bridging the, our Purity operating system, whether it's on-premises, whether it's at the edge, or whether it's at the public cloud.
04:25
And what this does is it kind of bridges where we kind of have the storage. It's giving you that exact same experience i- no matter where you are. So if you're using certain capabilities on-premises and you wanna move that to the cloud, you are going to have that. It's gonna behave exactly in the same way.
04:41
Some of the underlying barriers that you might have had around different levels of automation or different levels of capability is it, again, unifies that overall experience through Fusion, which is our intelligent control plane. Again, with what we're doing now with 1 Touch and our universal data intelligence. But again, our Evergreen data architecture is, again, going to bridge and
05:00
bring all of that together. So let's talk about the solution. The solution we're talking about today is Everpure Cloud Azure Native. And really where this becomes beneficial is that we are part of the Azure Native Integration Program.
05:14
This used to be called the Azure ISV service. And what this does is allows us as Pure to offer a fully managed storage service that integrates directly into your Azure environment. What it does is it's completely deployed, centrally managed, and built through the Azure marketplace.
05:31
It's integrated through all of the onboarding through Azure Resource Manager. And again, you're using the exact same security principles of what you do with all of the Entra ID that you have today. And so with this, right, we'll kind of look at what is this solution going to look like and learn a little bit more about it and its supported use cases.
05:53
So one of the benefits of this solution is there's no longer all of these extra guessings of, "Do I need to provision certain types of arrays?" Or, "What are the capabilities?" Is really is we have predictable cost as well as predictable performance. And with this is you're gonna be billed for the data that you are actually writing, not the data that you are provisioning.
06:13
Our storage pools will have a minimum of 30 TiB. And we do have a couple options around terms, right? We can either do on-demand, pay-as-you-go, we can do one year, we can also do three year. From performance, there's a slider on your storage pool. Pay for only what you need, be flexible.
06:30
Scale up when you need it, scale down when you don't. Again, starting at 800 megabytes per second today, going up to two gigs per second per storage pool. And again, in the future, we're gonna be increasing these limits as well. One of the other capabilities that we'll have here is, again, the savings, right?
06:48
These are the numbers. What we're seeing across our fleet is high levels of data reduction. This is a real example from one of our customers, that they're getting an average of five-to-one data reduction across their fleet. What they realized is through all of the benefits of what Everpure can bring, is for
07:03
every petabyte they store, it shrinks it down to 200 terabytes, and they're roughly saving a million dollars in cost. Again, we may not all have a petabyte, but again, we are seeing savings up to 50% in quite a few of our customer environments. And so that's really the financial side.
07:20
It's not diving into all of the op- other operational features that we can bring alongside our snapshots, our replication, our SafeMode, our fusion, all of those other benefits of that unified experience. So let's introduce what does the Azure native solution actually look like. Again, as we mentioned earlier, this is a fully managed solution through Azure.
07:43
When you're consuming this, it's gonna look just like every other Azure service. It's fully managed block, and we support two use cases today. One will be Azure virtual machines. That is brand new. We just, announced that this month. As well as Azure VMware Solution, which we have had up and available
08:01
since August of last year. And really what this native service does is it reduces complexity and increases flexibility because you're not-- you're no longer having to manage solutions through two different planes. Again, we can increase your cost savings.
08:17
It allows the easy way to configure and migrate your VMs. But the best part is it's fully marketplace transactable, and again, goes against all of your commits that you might have with Microsoft. So how do we deploy this? Well, there's three main constructs of what we have with our service.
08:36
The first one is where you create our service. This is that reservation where you're committing to a particular term, you're choosing a plan, and you're selecting your billing construct. Do you want pay-as-you-go? Do you want a one-year commitment, or do you want a three-year commitment?
08:50
The next one is you go ahead and deploy storage pool. Again, no crazy prereqs. You just create a subnet and delegate it to our resource provider. When we also talk about the benefits is you say, what VNet do you want it into, what availability zone, what region, and how much performance do you need?
09:07
Once that's done, connecting it to the resource is, again, very simple. Couple clicks, and you'll be connected either to your Azure virtual machines or into your Azure VMware Solution environment. And so with that, I'll pass it off to Carl to kind of talk about AVS. Thanks, David. So first up is AVS or Azure VMware Solution.
09:27
And what is AVS? Well, it's exactly what you probably believe that it is. It is a VMware cluster sitting in Azure, just like your on-premises VMware cluster environment. It's a comprehensive environment.
09:40
It was designed, along with VMware and sits in Azure. You bring your licenses that you already have, your VCF licenses, into the AVS environment to provide your, your licensing ability for, VMware. It is sold and supported by Microsoft holistically, and it acts just STaaS if it's an extension of your on-prem data center.
10:02
You can move workloads from left to right and right to left, use it as a disaster recovery environment, and of course, you can use Pure Storage against the AVS environment to help you reduce costs. And we're gonna be talking about that over the next couple slides. How do we reduce these costs?
10:23
Well, first, let's take a look at what, what does the hardware environment of AVS actually look like. Well, it's a whole bunch of server cl-- sitting in a cluster, right? There's compute, there's storage, there's, there's memory. Well, what happens when we just simply need to add more storage?
10:39
Well, you have two options. Option number one is to add more AVS hosts. Well, along with those hosts come more RAM, more CPU, and more storage, of course. But remember, if you only needed more storage, the better way to do it from a value perspective is to add Pure Storage.
11:01
You can expand dynamically using only what you need and only expanding the storage environment, reducing the amount of the overall investment that it takes to operate your Azure VMware Solution environment. Our calculations and our examples in the real world have shown us that we can save up to forty percent on cost versus adding more hosts to the environment simply by adding more
11:25
Everpure Storage. And one of the core benefits of where we really tie in is that when we're going ahead and connecting this, not only are we making it very easy to consume, we're also going ahead and allowing you to register our vSphere plugin. This is where we're gonna manage everything from that vSphere environment.
11:48
So once you get that storage deployed, your vSphere administrators will be able to manage all of your storage through the consoles of what they do. Right-click the cluster, go ahead and create a data store. Right-click that data store Create snapshots, recover from snapshots. It's the exact same interface that they might be using on-premises, and it's again going to
12:06
overly simplify that experience of what they have today. Wow, that's really impressive, David. Thank you for showing us that. Folks, certainly every migration looks different. Some organizations that run VMware like to go to VMware and Azure.
12:21
Some organizations would like to modernize and go to Azure Vi- Virtual Machines. But what are they? Well, again, it's probably what you think they are. They are virtual machines sitting in the Azure environment. Underneath the covers, yes, they are Hyper-V hosted.
12:35
We of course carve out a portion of that host for you as an Azure VM. Certainly, you can pick your size. Maybe it's a two-core, four-GB box. It's got some level of storage on it, et cetera. You can run Windows Server, you can run Linux, you can run any applications
12:51
in there that you like. That being said, you have your choice when it comes to your storage platform. You can use Azure-managed disks. F- however, you can save costs and increase your efficiencies by using Pure Storage. A lot of organizations are modernizing to Azure virtual machines, and we think that
13:10
Everpure Storage is a great value proposition for your native virtual machine migration. David, let's hear some more about that. Yeah. And so really the benefit is this slide may not seem about simplifying your architecture, but it really does. And one of the biggest use cases we see of customers across our fleet is that they're
13:29
taking advantage of running their databases in the cloud. And if you think about this on the left-hand side, if you think about a, a database server, let's call this Microsoft SQL. You have your operating system disk, you have your log drive, you have your database drive, you have your temp DB disk, and you might have a backup volume.
13:46
And if you think about all the different types of storage that Azure has, you kind of think about, well, what is the best type of disk for ultimately what I need? And so when you have your operating system volume, there's really only three that you can use. So we don't really need a whole lot of performance, so let's use a standard SSD.
14:03
For our logs, we need something that's performant, and so let's go ahead and use premium SSD V2. For our database, we want something that is performant but also has lower latency. And so for that one, we might use Ultra SSD. For temp DB, we need something that's efficient and fast, but it
14:20
doesn't need to be persistent. So let's go ahead and take advantage of an instance that has ephemeral storage. And then lastly, for your backups, you need something that might scale performance with capacity, so you might go ahead and use a premium SSD. And so when you think about this, a lot of these choices ultimately lead to a fixed
14:37
performance at the volume level, a provisions capacity that you're stuck with, whether you use it or not, and you're also limited on those feature capabilities. The benefit of utilizing Everpure Cloud allows you to standardize and put all of your data volumes on our storage, which again, gives you flexible performance so that any volume that needs that performance has it available to them.
14:58
It gives that best-in-class data reduction to make sure that if you have multiple copies of the same data, we're gonna de-duplicate that. If you have data that you've provisioned and that you haven't written, we're gonna then provision that. And all of this ultimately leads to that simplified management because again, you're
15:12
not leaving the interfaces of what you're familiar with today. And what this leads to now is how do we actually connect our service to an Azure virtual machine? We're taking advantage of a really cool thing within Azure called Azure VM Extensions. And so once our service is deployed and you provision your volume group and your volumes,
15:33
you'll go ahead and specify your Azure VM resource and hit Connect, right? While this is fundamentally iSCSI under the covers, you really wouldn't know how you're connecting to it because everything is automated end to end. We are applying best practices. We are applying settings.
15:48
We are doing everything you need to. And so for you, it's point and click. It's a very simplified approach of how we can go out and drive that and simplify your experience. So with that, let's talk about a couple customers, right?
16:02
Mars, again, on the left-hand side is looking really at value around having a scalable platform that is ultimately li- delivering them a financial benefit. In the middle, right, with Prodosio, they are a customer who were truly looking at a disaster recovery environment. They were currently using us on Pure on-premises.
16:22
They had a lot of things automated, and they wanted to take over that same experience as they moved to the public cloud. While they could have done this with Azure Native Storage, it wouldn't have been the exact same experience of what they've had. And again, on the right-hand side, we see a Red Lobster, which has been up on stage with
16:38
us for a bit. And while today they're not actually utilizing our Everpure Cloud, a lot of the investments that they've made is really that unified data experience with our Enterprise Data Cloud, knowing that when they do have the time of where they wanna build that foundation and shift to their cloud applications and their planned Azure migrations, our underlying footprint can really provide that solid
17:00
foundation for all of that upcoming. And David, I think we also have to call out here eighteen to one data reduction. I mean, that needs to be sung from the mountaintops. That, that is an- Yeah incredible number and a, and a massive cost savings for your client. Yeah, definitely. And that's really where we help turn the
17:19
savings into innovation. And so in most cases, customers already have their MAC, they already have their commit, they already have that committed spend. And there's two things that we could ultimately do to help that. If a customer is underutilized, well, they can adopt our service and gain benefits.
17:33
If they're overutilized, they're gonna procure us, and they can help renegotiate. And so what we've seen with customers, again, our average five to one across a fleet, as we saw, sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less. But all of this leads ultimately to those benefits. Again, we're optimizing that storage.
17:49
And so again, what we've seen is as we are in now this AI era, is we are seeing a lot of customers needing to turn and gain more budget, and they're not getting it. So our overall goal is to understand what customers are doing and optimize it so they can take the savings of what they've done with our storage and now reinvest them in their other use cases that will benefit their business.
18:13
And if this sounded good to you, we do have the ability to do a thirty-day free trial, right, up to thirty TiB as well as up to the two gigs per second. Scan this QR code. We'd love to hear from you. And once you do, we'll reach out. And with that, really appreciated this conversation with you, Carl.
18:29
I think this was a really good, exposure into our Everpure Cloud Azure Native service and looking forward to you as customers and partners, diving in and taking a look. Same. Thanks for having me today, David and Everpure. You're doing such a wonderful job for our clients here with Azure, helping optimizing spend and delivering tremendous levels of performance and security.
